Mounir Fatmi has taken part in many international events, in Museums and galleries in New York, Tokyo, London, Amsterdam, Paris, Johannesburg and Dusseldorf. His work involves installation, sculpture, drawing ans video. His work is marked by a real aesthetic dimension with a critical view of all forms of cultural power, whether it be the marking presence of the Father on the Individual, or of that imposed by the architecture of big international cities. The materials employed are quite simple, television cables (the cultural power of one way communication), video cassettes or wooden horse jumps (the only gambling sport allowed in Muslim countries). With Mounir Fatmi, a Rubik’s cube becomes a Ka’aba, a headache for moderate muslims, and the explosive matter of a pseudo terrorist taken in photo would be madu up of supposedly subversive literature. Humour is not absent. With Fuck Archtects (II), the fundementals of imposing architectral forms is under question. The First chapter of this work was unveiled in Now York at the Lombard-Freid Project gallery, and the Third, after Thiers, will be presented at the next Brussels Biennale in 2009.
